iPod – A Premium ‘Must Have!’
The digital music player market came of age, when Apple introduced the iPod, arguably its best selling product to date, in 2001. These ‘hard to resist’ gadgets have been capturing the imagination of the world since the past 5 years and has also been ruling the marquee since. These pocket sized beauties are ultra light, ultra portable and have hard drive or flash drive based media storage systems. Currently, the 5th generation iPod is a large capacity (60GB – 80GB) audio player that is designed to be user friendly and can be used by young teenagers as well.
Today, the Apple iPod comes in a range of variants, which include the Nano, Shuffle, Mini and iPod Video (latest). All the iPod models are easy to work, and can be operated by people from any age group. The simple user interface along with the central (main) scroll wheel allows for ease in navigation and access to the player’s many features. The older versions of the iPod (iPod 20 GB and Mini – now discontinued) use a hard drive to store media, while the newer variants (Nano and Shuffle) use flash memory.
A brief journey back in time reveals that the Apple iPod was unveiled for the very first time on 23 October, 2001. The credit for the idea goes to Tony Fadell, an independent contractor, who joined Apple to begin work on the iPod. The first iPod had some serious flaws; it was very expensive at $400 making it out of reach for most customers. Also, the iPod lacked PC support. So Steve Jobs decided to address these issues, and launched a better version in Europe, in November 2001.
A staggering 125,000 iPod were sold by the end of 2001, alone! Since then, Apple has released many software updates to fix bugs and has also launched many models keeping in pace with the technology and customer requirements. In June 2003, Apple reached a milestone after having sold One Million iPods worldwide. Since then, the iPod has become the biggest selling portable digital music player. The marketing of the iPod has been a remarkable trendsetter with some of the best adverts being shown on TV featuring the coolest tunes for maximum impact.
There are a whole range of accessories available in the market to make your iPod look hip and trendy; colorful iPod skins, trendy iPod docking stations, iPod softwares to download movies, videos, and games and much more. You can buy your favorite music from the iTune Music store and play the songs on your iPod. However, iTunes is not compatible with Mac OS X, despite the fact that it has been developed by Apple. Windows users have nothing to worry about. To know more about how you can convert your iPod into a Jukebox log on to http://www.apple.com/itunes.
The iPod has become more than a rage, or a trend. It has in fact, transcended all borders and all mindsets to become the ‘Numero Uno’ in the world where music has become soul curry for all!
